Wade Franck was a hit and run victim
A bicyclist hit by a suspected drunk driver over the weekend has died.Police officers and medics found 41 year old Wade Franck with serious injuries in the 5100 block of Grand Avenue Sunday morning.
Two
other bicyclists were also hit. Franck was transported to Iowa
Methodist Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead on
Tuesday evening.
Several other bicyclists witnessed the crash and
were able to provide a description, including a license plate number,
for the vehicle that fled the scene of the accident.
Investigating officers located the vehicle after a short time and detained the driver.
Following
interviews and further investigation, 31 year old Jonathan Leyva was
arrested for OWI 2nd offense. After Franck's death, his charges were
upgraded to: Homicide by Vehicle, Homicide by Reckless Driving and
Failure to Render Aid Resulting in Death.
He is currently being held at the Polk County Jail.
