A day of trying to visually capture Iowa City’s cycling culture ended
Thursday night with more than 50 riders gathering at RIDE, the city’s
bike-themed restaurant.
“It showcases how Iowa is a destination in
the state, and ... how cycling is a part of this vibrant community,”
said Steve McGuire, a University of Iowa art professor who has taught
frame-building classes for the past five years. “I like to remind people
that Iowa City has more bicycle shops per capita than any other city in
the state — each with its own connection to bike culture.”
McGuire
had put out the call earlier in the week for Iowa City cyclists to be
out and about Thursday because a photographer from Outside Magazine was
taking photos throughout the day for a future story on the city’s bike
culture.
