After all the planning and costs that went into Waverly hosting Iowa’s biggest cycling event of the year, the local RAGBRAI committee reports that the city is in the black.

With estimated expenses totaling $105,367 and estimated revenue totaling $112,573, the estimated net earnings from RAGBRAI’s July 24 stop in Waverly total around $7,200.

Heidi Solheim, director of communications at the Waverly Health Center and chairwoman of the Waverly RAGBRAI publicity committee, said the committee was very excited to present the news during a meeting on the morning of Aug. 27.

“Our goal, really, was to just break even,” she said. “So it wasn’t about our bottom line at the end. It was about the great revenue and sales that our businesses and organizations had. So we feel really good about it.”
