A century-old train depot in Minburn was on the move Thursday. Literally.
Workers spent part of the morning moving the depot about 100 yards, from near a grain elevator to next to the popular Raccoon River Valley Trail.
The depot, abandoned by Union Pacific Railroad in 2004, will be transformed into a visitors center, cafe and museum. The cost of the project is estimated at $1.2 million.
"It will be great for the community," Mayor Mike Pace said. "It will be great for the people riding the trail to stop and get some refreshments."
The city began working on the project in 2007. Before, the depot was in the middle of the Heartland Co-op, which wasn't an ideal location for traffic, Pace said.
Pace said they're hoping to have the depot fully operational by January.
