The Sheldon RAGBRAI committee has selected a logo and theme. The
committee is making preparations for the bike riders to spend some time
in the city during the first day of their ride July 20th. The logo will
reflect the community’s slogan, “Where Families Come First”. It portrays
a family riding a family-size bike with the theme, “That’s How We
Roll”.
Sheldon will be a key stopover for the riders as this will be the
place where they can meet with their support vehicles. The bike riders
will enter Sheldon on Highway 18 from the west with the support vehicles
using a different route to arrive from the south. The bicycle route
will turn off Highway 18 to go around City Park where vendors and
entertainment will be located. Vendor information is on the city of
Sheldon website, sheldoniowa.com.
Letters are also being sent to non-profit organizations in the city who
may be interested in participating. No vendor permits will be issued
until after the city council has passed the vendor ordinance which is
expected at their meeting Tuesday, May 6th.
It has been announced that on June 1st there will be a route
inspection pre-ride. This is a group of riders representing RAGBRAI who
will ride the entire route from Rock Valley to the Iowa Lakes area. The
purpose is to review the route and visit the communities along the way.
Sheldon committee members will be available to inform them of Sheldon’s
plans at that time. Residents of Sheldon will have several opportunities
to find out what to expect on the day the riders arrive. This
information will be presented at a public town meeting in addition to
service club meetings and other events.
