Osky RAGBRAI funds distributed

Funds from the July RAGBRAI stop in Oskaloosa were distributed Friday at the Oskaloosa Area Chamber and Development Group office.
Oskaloosa Mayor Dave Krutzfeldt said he was happy to be present for the Oskaloosa RAGRAI 2013 funds distribution.
“This was successful event — not only financially, but also in the way that it pulled the community together,” said Krutzfeldt, noting the six month preparation period leading up to the July 25 overnight stop.
Those who came together to organize various aspects of the stop came away from the Oskaloosa RAGBRAI stop “with a new respect for one another and a new capability for projects in the future and many good memories,” Krutzfeldt said.
On the day of the RAGBRAI stop, the Oskaloosa RAGBRAI Executive Committee had a good idea of how things would operate, noted Krutzfeldt.
“We also knew there were going to be some surprises,” Krutzfeldt said.
In discussing some of the goings on during the RAGBRAI stop, Krutzfeldt said the plan was to have a cover charge for the beverage garden on the Oskaloosa square. He noted that some riders were reluctant to enter the entertainment area because there hadn’t been a cover charge in similar areas at other RAGBRAI stops.
The decision to forgo the cover charge and rely on beverage sales alone to cover the bills turned out to be “a good call,” said Krutzfeldt.
