A Mason City man is in fair condition at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, after he crashed into a truck while on his bicycle.
At around 5:30 this Wednesday morning, 20-year-old Dalton Waslick
failed to yield at a stop sign, and was side-swiped by 40-year-old Brad
Lunning’s truck.
The accident happened at the intersection of North Carolina and 4th Street in Mason City.
Waslick was taken from the scene by ambulance and later transferred to Mayo.
The whole incident has local law enforcement reminding cyclists that
following the rules of the road on a bike is just as important as behind
the wheel of a vehicle.
“A lot of people forget that they need to follow all the traffic
laws, it’s kind of like driving a vehicle yourself. You’re riding a
bicycle you have to be stopping at street lights, stop signs, or yield
signs. You’re not a pedestrian you don’t always have the right away,”
said Mason City Police Officer Kevin Duenow.
Officer Duenow also stresses the importance of wearing a helmet while biking.
Charges are pending in this case.
