A Des Moines man was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike to
work in Altoona Wednesday.
Robert Vitera, 60, was riding in the northbound lane of NE
Hubbell Avenue near the intersection of 34th Avenue
NW. Vitera says he was struck from behind and thrown into a
ditch. He was able to walk to the Altoona Inn for help, and later
admitted to Mercy Hospital and listed in stable condition.
