RAGBRAI rider hurt in collision with truck

A 16-year-old RAGBRAI rider was injured in a collision with a pickup truck Friday afternoon in downtown Manchester. Jordan J. Johnson, 16, of Stratford, Texas, was transported to the Delaware County Memorial Hospital. No information on his condition was released. Around 1 p.m. Friday, the driver of the pickup, 19-year-old Aaron P. Chapman, of Manchester, failed to yield at a stop sign, and Johnson collided with the rear of the truck, according to the Iowa State Patrol. Chapman reportedly drove away from the scene even though he knew a bicyclist had hit him, authorities said. The crash occurred near the intersection of Main and Brewer streets. Authorities weren't available to confirm whether Johnson was a RAGBRAI rider, but he had written on his MySpace Page that he was departing to Iowa for a 400-mile bike ride. Charges are pending in the crash.
