Latimer bicyclist hit by semi near Alexander

Alexander, IA A Latimer man was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa after he was hit by a semi tractor trailer while riding his bicycle near Alexander Monday morning. James Mapes, 54, was riding his bicycle eastbound in the 300 block of 190th Street about 8:20 a.m. Monday when a semi driven by Dennis Love, 46, Meservey, struck him from behind, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. Love said he saw Mapes on the shoulder, but when he went to go around him Mapes re-entered the roadway, according to officials. Mapes was transported to Mercy Medical Center — North Iowa by Franklin General Ambulance Service. A condition report was not immediately available today. — By Laura Bird
