Kalona invited to host RAGBRAI overnight

Should Kalona host RAGBRAI in 2010? Lori Mostek announced at Monday's Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon that Kalona has been invited to host RAGBRAI in 2009 or 2010. Mostek noted that smaller communities than Kalona have hosted RAGBRAI. Dean Miller and Myron Graber spoke about their experiences on the annual July bike ride across Iowa. They said Kalona should not have any problem in feeding the riders, but it will take a lot of planning. Phil Ropp expressed concern about beer tents, noting most towns realize large profits from beer tents. He also pointed out that the community would need to guard against out of town vendors. President Larry Moeller urged Chamber members to talk to others and to give the board members some feedback.
