Variety to give away bikes, helmets, locks

To celebrate and dedicate the new bike rack, Variety-The Children's Charity of Iowa, will distribute bikes, helmets and bike locks to 50 children at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Jackson Park. Bikes for Kids is a Variety@Work program that provides recreational activity opportunities to special-needs or underprivileged children. St. Mark Community Center volunteers, Safe Kids representatives and Variety volunteers will be on hand to help with the distribution of bikes, helmets, and locks. Officers from the Dubuque Police Department will teach the children about bicycle safety. They also will set up a bike rodeo for the winners and their new bikes.
