DES MOINES, Iowa -- A 17-year-old boy was killed around 2 a.m. Monday when he was hit by a car while he stood on a sidewalk. Des Moines police Sgt. Vince Valdez said Marcus Harrington and a friend were on the sidewalk west of the intersection of Beaver and Douglas Avenues in Des Moines. Harrington was rollerblading and the friend was on a bike. Valdez said it appears the driver was speeding when he lost control and hit the teen. The driver then left the scene. Valdez said West Des Moines police later arrested Colby Dunagan, 19, from West Des Moines in the 2600 block of Ashworth Road. Dunagan's car had a broken windshield. Valdez said West Des Moines officers knew of the hit-and-run and Dunagan was brought to Des Moines for questioning. Valdez said the investigation revealed that Dunagan was the driver of the car that hit Harrington. Dunagan was charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving, OWI by Des Moines police. West Des Moines police also charged him with speeding and drivng with a broken windshield. Police said Harrington had arrived two days ago from Chicago to stay with his mother for the summer. Dunagan was taken to the Polk County Jail.
