Quick Facts about Bike-Themed Poster Shows in Des Moines

The 2010 opening event in Des Moines was the most successful bike-themed poster show opening, surpassing Minneapolis, Portland, St. Louis, San Francisco, and Denver.

PedalArt attracts cyclists: Single-speeders, fitness cyclists, mountain bikers, casual cruisers, commuters, and recreational riders. However, the appeal of the poster show extends to a wider group of people who like bikes and appreciate owning original artwork.

PedalArt has selected 30 artists to create an original poster design for the May 31-June 2 show and sale.

PedalArt Des Moines meets four objectives:

  1. Provide Iowa artists with an opportunity to create original bicycle-inspired artwork to show and sell to an enthusiastic and appreciative audience. The artists receive 70 percent of the poster revenue.
  2. Provide the pubic with an opportunity to enjoy original, affordable artwork that reflects and celebrates Des Moines cycling culture in an energetic atmosphere. And carry their favorite posters home!
  3. Provide sponsors with an opportunity to establish themselves as supporters of Des Moines cycling and artists, and engage directly with their customers in an event that transcends traditional marketing.
  4. Provide the Des Moines cycling community with a new forum to promote the importance of bicycling in sustainable living and reinforce the benefits to health, wellness and basic happiness that come with riding a bike.
