Recap/Results

THANKS to everyone who came out last weekend to Capital City Cross.

This two day event took place at the same venue, but the race day conditions were anything but the same!

Stone Park is home to the Tuesday "Renegade Practices", but the BIKEIOWA boys whipped up a great course with some new lines including the two-way stretch up on the hill, a great spectator-friendly run-up and the "Death-Star" on the flats in the middle of fhe venue.

SATURDAY - Sept 28th

147 racers show up to what started out a rainy day. The course took the rain well, but made for some slick (and exiting) corners and straight aways for the Cat 4/5/Jrs, Men's Masters and part of the s Cat 3 race.

Later in the day, the course was drying out and proved to be quite fast for the Women's and Men's Pro 1/2/3 races.

The Cat 4 and 5 race had the most muddy slickness, but all were looking like they were having a a great time as they smiles could be seen on each lap. KUDOS to those who did their first race! You'll end up appreciating a good muddy race.

Women's Pro 1/2/3 - Lisa Vetterlein (Des Moines Cycle Club) and Brittany Mcconnell (Mercy/Specialized) battled the entire race before Lisa slid by on the last lap to take the win.

Men's Pro 1/2/3 - Kevin McConnell (Mercy/Specialized) cleaned house with a huge gap opened up after the first lap. Ryan Jacobsen and Nathan Kullbom, both from Atlas Cycling in Iowa City brought home the Silver and Bronze.

SUNDAY - Sept 29th

Sunday Funday brought 150 racers to the line. The weather was AWESOME and the course was super-fast and tacky where it needed to be for superb grip.

The course was a reverse of Saturday with some added features like the "Z" run up next to Heckler's Hill and the fast swoop of the "S Roller" down hill.  The "Death-Star" seemed to roll better on Sunday, as it was not as slick to take those tight corners.

Women's Pro 1/2/3 - Brittany Mcconnell rocked the course with a substantial lead over (Des Moines Cycle Club's) Linda Cooper and Alijah Beatty (Mercy/Specialized).

Men's
Pro 1/2/3 - Kevin McConnell (Mercy/Specialized) took home the prize money again on Sunday with a clean (long) lead over teammate Aaron Robnett (2nd) and  Nathan Kullbom (3rd).

All Racers and spectators alike looked to be having a great time!
