Description

Mountain Biking

Distance - About 8 or 9 miles

UPDATE (Tuesday): We are cancelling this week's ride. With all the frost thawing out of the ground, it isn't going to matter if it rains Wednesday or not. The trails are too muddy, and will be too muddy for quite awhile. Riding muddy trails causes damage.

We will be starting our spring/summer paved rides on March 14 (first Wednesday after DST starts). We will return to mtb rides on September 5th (first Wednesday after Labor Day). In addition to posting them all on bikeiowa.com, we have created a Facebook group for discussion.

UPDATE (Monday): Here comes the last date in our fall/winter mtb series. Conditions now are icky, but Monday and Tuesday are forecast to be sunny, warm, dry, and windy. Let's not look at Wednesday's schedule just yet; maybe it will get better. Join our discussion on Facebook.

Kyle loves mountain biking. And mountain biking is fun. So for the fall and winter, the Kyle's Bikes Wednesday Night Ride is a mountain bike ride on Sycamore Trail!

Meet us in the north gravel lot off 66th Avenue at 7:30 p.m. We will roll out at 7:45. (You can park in the gravel lot. Or you can park in the paved Neal Smith Trail lot on the east side of the river and ride the new protected bike/ped trail on the bridge.)

The pace will vary depending on who shows up. We may split into smaller groups if the group is large or there is a significant difference in paces. We vary the route a little each time, but regardless of route, we regroup at the following points:

  1. Double Track (by the gravel pit)
  2. Fish Camp (confluence of Beaver Creek and Des Moines River)
  3. Turnaround* (the paved Trestle to Trestle Trail)
  4. Fish Camp
  5. Double Track

*There is always an option for those who want to to take the paved trail down to South Syc. We can chat about it during the regroup. Due to time crunch for most on a weeknight, the main group heads back north.

If you've not ridden at Sycamore before and are concerned about getting lost, find Katherine, Kyer, or Kyle before the ride and let them know. We can find you a buddy. :-) We don't want to lose anyone!

BRING LIGHTS. Running into things is *not* fun.

We do not ride wet trails. Nor during blizzards. Watch our Facebook page carefully for updates.
