(Level: Intermediate Riders)

New to the Des Moines area and don’t know where to begin?

Pingora Outdoors, CITA (Central Iowa Trail Association) and the Des Moines Bicycle Collective have teamed up to bring you the ultimate mountain biking tour of Des Moines! All you need is your bike, helmet and proper clothing. Pingora will take care of transportation and food while you hit the trails.

We will depart from the South Sycamore parking lot in the Pingora Adventure Van with your bike in tow. Our first stop will be Banner Lakes in Summerset State Park, where you will ride around 5.5 miles of single track. Get prepared for some short, challenging climbs with rewarding fast descents! Our other stops will include Ewing Trails (including the new flow trail), Center Trails at Greenwood and Sycamore Park.

Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day to help refuel you between rides, along with a gourmet lunch.

Extras:

If needed, we will provide a quick intro to mountain biking clinic and trail etiquette before the tour begins. The Des Moines Bicycle Collective ‘s Certified Bike Tech, Nate, along with owner of Pingora Outdoors, Dom, will be onsite for quick fixes such as flats, etc.
Not sure if your bike is trail ready? Head over to the DSMBC (Des Moines Bicycle Collective) a few days before the tour for a quick tune up – don’t forget to mention Pingora!

Snacks, lunch and beverages will be provided. If you have any food allergies or special dietary needs, please indicate so and we will gladly provide options for you.

The Trails

Banner Lakes:

Host to around 5.5 of tight singletrack ranging from easy to difficult, this trail takes you through woods and on top of the former strip-mine’s tailings. Banner is fast and flows well!

Ewing Park & Flow Trail:

Ewing has been around for a while, but is most recently known for its new flow trails that opened up earlier this year. This trail system appeals to both expert and beginner mountain bikers.

Center Trails:

Located in the heart of Des Moines behind the Des Moines Art Center, this trail system is a blast to ride! There are three different sections within Center Trails, Hillside, Rollercoaster and Denmans. Hillside is hilly technical and fun with Rollercoaster being a flowy ride with a few bridges forcing your comfort level on a different range of surfaces. Then there’s Denmans, fast, flowy and fun right next to the Des Moines River.

Sycamore:

Running along the Des Moines river, this single track is fast, flowy and flat with a north and south side. We will be exploring both ends of this trail system!
