The calendar says September and the weather feels like fall…….must be time for some RENEGADE CYCLOCROSS.
With the season upon us, it’s probably a great time to give you an annual ‘lay of the land’ and whatnot in regard to our Tuesday evenings together the next several weeks. As always, we try to keep this simple, fun and inviting to all ability levels.
First, a quick rundown of what renegade cross IS and what it is NOT. Renegade is a great place to come out, spend time with likeminded folks, spread (or soak up) some knowledge, and get an honest to goodness cyclcocross workout in. it is NOT a super aggro, no holds-barred, world cup level race. If that’s what you’re looking for, you need to look elsewhere. No one’s racing for cash and medals, and the course is not gonna be double-taped on both sides, with an official counting down laps. This is a fun and FREE event. Good? Good.
FREE? Yes, free! Yet again, we’ve had the city of des moines let us utilitze park space for free. Additionally, new Belgium brewery covered some other costs to make this a free event again in 2011. THANK YOU TO THESE PEOPLE. And while you’re at it, make sure you thank all the great volunteers that setup flags and barriers, and tear them down each week. This is a low-key event, but it doesn’t happen all by itself.
As always, ‘racing’ will start about 5:30. Folks generally start showing up any time after 5. We will do this gig every tuesday thru daylight savings time, aside from a HORRIBLE amount of rain. I’d say check back here (bikeiowa.com/cross) each Tuesday just to be sure. We’ll give recaps, updates and any other needed info about renegade cyclocross.
